Napa Valley Paces-Fastest Ragnar Ever! (for us)

This was by far the fastest team we have fielded for any Ragnar.  Not only were the traditional team members faster overall, but adding the three Dole guys really helped.  I think our record prior to this race was 33 hours to complete a Ragnar.  This one took us just under 29 hours.  That was awesome.  Carlos was the fastest, followed by Dave, Kenny, Wade, James, John, and Alfonzo.  Wade had the longest official distance followed by Alfonzo.  James ran 22.4 miles, but 6.5 miles of that was at a 11:00 pace with BarbaraJane on her night time run.  I didn't count that in my mileage or my pace below.  Some of the paces may need to be adjusted slightly so that we don't penalize anyone for time they either had to wait or time counted against them for getting to the exchange late.  I know a few that need to change, but I need the actual run time for each run to update the spreadsheet accordingly.  Nevertheless, I think the chart below is reflective of the ranking.
As an FYI, Danielle ran with BarbaraJane for her first leg and then ran with Christine her second and third legs.

Name Miles Run Time Apx Pace
   Carlos 17.2 2:09:06 0:07:30

Dave 16.8 2:10:18 0:07:45

Kenny 16.4 2:08:20 0:07:49

Wade 23.7 3:05:24 0:07:49

James 15.9 2:06:05 0:07:55

John 12.4 1:41:18 0:08:10

Alfonzo 22.7 3:05:59 0:08:11

Liz 13.6 2:22:04 0:10:26

Barbara  15.8 2:51:17 0:10:50

  1. My official times/distances based on my watch (ie not counting the wait for the exchange to be made)
    2.9mi in 21:04 = 7:15 pace
    4.1mi in 31:08 = 7:35 pace
    5.5mi in 49:06 = 8:55 pace
    Total
    12.5mi in 1:41:18 @ 8:06 pace

  2. John,
I updated the spreadsheet and updated the original post. The 2.9 was actually 2.8 on the official course map. Our system in the past was to take the official distances and our own timed runtime to calculate the passes. It still puts you between me and Alfonzo.

  3. Liz had to stop running her third leg due to an injury, so I actually ran the last 1.7 miles of her run, then ran my 2.0. My overall total is 13.2 miles. My overall pace is correct within a second or two. I don't know exactly because I didn't start my watch right away after swapping with Liz. Close enough. I'm solidly 11th and I'm ok with that. :) Just in awe of all you boys and your 7 and 8 min/mile paces!

Still a little high on Ragnar, and a little tired. Thank you everyone for a really fun weekend adventure.

  4. I had a great time. Being in the Suburban was little tighter, but loved it because everyone could participate in the conversations. Sleeping in the van and on the gym floor, showering in the community shower. Awkward, but quite the experience. It was great finishing so early. Loved it. Even better, my heel stopped hurting a few days before the race and hasn't bothered me since. I have no idea why it stopped, but I'm super excited about that.
