Hotel

Apparently, it does not seem that Ragnar will have facilities for us to use along the route.  All of the options AnneMarie presented to Carrie didn't pan out, because Ragnar was too late to approach the facilities for approval.

Tom has come up with another option for a hotel between exchanges 18 and 24.  This will allow Van 1 to use it twice (after the 1st leg and then again after the second leg.  Van 1 will use it after their second leg. Here are some details he provided in an email to the Van 2 team members.  It seems they are all for it.  How about Van 1?  I can speak for three of us as a hearty, "Yes!"  After my 10 miler, I will need a shower.  Who needs sleep anyway, tight?!  Any other thoughts or votes?

If we get a place between exchanges 18 and 24, maybe Van 2 could use it twice (after 1st and 2nd legs), and Van 1 could use it once (after 2nd leg).  We could pass keys off at the exchanges.  It would mean around an extra hour of driving for Van 2 compared to just camping at the exchanges.  But it's not that bad because exchanges 18 and 24 are ridiculously close together.  (Side note: It won't take Van 2 very long to do our night runs.  Estimate is currently 3:45.  Van 1 will have precious little time to sleep.)

Here is the plan as currently contemplated:
book 2 rooms with 2 double beds each at the Ramada Limited San Marcos
  •  Total cost is about $114; we split it 12 ways and pay around $10 each
  •  Van 2 will be there after our first leg from about 5 to 10PM; we can make one room quiet so people who want to sleep choose that room.
  •  Van 1 will be there after their second leg from about 11:15PM to 1:45AM We will pretty much only have time to shower.
  •  Van 2 will be there after our second leg from about 3 to 6:15AM; we put Gredings and Omers in one room and Tiffany and Jen in the other.

New SoCal Leg Assignments

I took the liberty to change the assignments.  Let me know if you have major objections.  You are always welcome to switch with others.  It is also posted to the left side on the blog. For those that access the blog via a mobile device, I changed the setting so that you can see the entire blog and not just the entries. I hope that works better for you.  Christine will not be running Ragnar.  There is no way she will be recovered by then.  She'll be my personal van slave.  :-)

6:30am Start time requested

They gave us three choices for our start times.  6:30, 6:45, and 7:00am.  I requested 6:30am.  We have been and will continue to plan for that as our start time.  If we are told otherwise, I'll let you know.  Otherwise, 6:30am it is.  Assuming everyone stays at least at the pace they noted, we should be done at 4:17pm on Saturday.  Slightly better than 5pm.  See Tom's spreadsheet for more details.  You'll need to follow the link to the left and navigate to the Estimated Times tab.
